Job Description

This is a key managerial role within the Discover Credit Risk Management team with specific responsibility for Discover Personal Loans credit risk management strategies and policies.



The specific position has responsibility for leading a team accountable for establishing and managing a range of acquisition and portfolio credit strategies for Discover Personal Loans (DPL). The role holder will contribute to the growth and development of the portfolio and provide direction for the company business plans and activities.



The role offers a significant and challenging environment for the right person to apply existing skills in a creative manner while also providing a unique opportunity to further develop business and management capabilities.



A well-rounded risk manager is sought with a high level of proven experience within a large-scale account management environment.



Promote a risk-aware culture; ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.



Responsibilities

  • Initiate, develop and implement credit risk and revenue strategies and policies for all aspects of DPL, including list selection, underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Establish appropriate profitability trade-offs using various tools to maximize business return on the business exposure ensuring that key business factors are understood and measured, i.e. risk and growth.
  • Drive value-based management principles into the day-to-day credit risk activities to maximize profit for the business overall.
  • Develop decision framework to support business strategies working closely with business partners. Identify and explore new approaches and data sources to support improvements to existing and new programs.
  • Establish, run and improve effective strategy performance tracking ensuring that strategies are performing as expected and feeding back learnings into strategy and / or policy changes in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and present new strategies and subsequent performance to management.
  • Establish and build strong effective working relationships with a range of business partners, where an in depth understanding of related business activities and their impact upon DPL performance is essential.
  • Provide risk leadership in respect of new loan product or feature developments.
  • Build, lead and develop a team of highly skilled credit risk analysts.

  • Bachelors Degree required; MBA, MS or Ph. D. degree in quantitative disciplines (mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, econometrics, etc.

    ) preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required, as follows:
  • Specific experience of setting credit risk criteria for acquisition or portfolio management programs would be a strong advantage.
  • Extensive experience of the application and usage of risk management decisioning tools
  • Evidence of successfully leading, inspiring and empowering a team of highly technical credit risk professionals
  • A comprehensive understanding of statistical modeling tools and techniques providing the ability to drive top rate performance from a modeling function and / or professionals. Experience and proficiency with analytical tools for data mining and statistical analysis e.g. SAS.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required including ability to translate analysis into clearly defined and supportable strategies / policies.
  • Ability to work under own initiative in a high-pressure environment whilst maintaining focus on key business drivers.
  • Demonstrate exceptional awareness of the industry across the markets served and respond to the unique challenges faced in these markets.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with statistical modeling, Machine Learning, Data Mining and other statistical advanced techniques is highly desirable.
